I know this is the "misc" newsgroup, but which prog.? I can't think of a
Dexter in any of the prog.s I follow (which don't include a street,
square, or valley/farm).

The voices of Radio 4 continuity and newsreading have been keeping me right
for as long as I can remember. I can call on a million different information
sources, but it doesn't make sense unti I've heard it from Peter, Harriet,
Charlotte and the rest.- Eddie Mair in Radio Times 10-16 November 2012

Perhaps this:
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_(TV_series)#U.S._broadcast>

or more likely this:
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter:_New_Blood>

The earlier series were broadcast in the UK on Freeview, although I
can't remember which channel. Because it had consistently high viewer
numbers it was bought by a subscription channel (probably Sky) and the
remaining series was not shown on Freeview.

The first season - maybe the first two - ITV1.

It's currently on Paramount +, which is bundled with Sky Cinema or can
be subscribed to separately.

I've been watching it on Netflix but I didn't stop to think about
whether Netflix is television in the strictest sense.

Paramount+ is the same sort of thing as Netflix or Amazon Prime, except
for the fact that it is downloaded (and therefore perfectly buffered)
when accessed via Sky+HD. I think you can also do that with Netflix vis
Sky Q (but not Sky+HD).

The broadcast history of "Dexter" in the UK was more complex than a
straight transfer from ITV1 to Sky.

It went like this:

Season 1 - ITV1 - 12 episodes January-May 2008
Season 2 - FX channel - 12 episodes July-September 2008
Season 3 - FX channel - 12 episodes April-July 2009
Season 4 - FX channel - 12 episodes August-October 2010
Season 5 - FX channel - 12 episodes June-September 2011
Season 6 - FX channel - 12 episodes April-June 2012
Season 7 - Fox channel - 12 episodes February-May 2013
Season 8 - Fox channel - 12 episodes July-September 2013

[Season 8 was the final season of the original series.]

"Dexter - New Blood" (effectively Season 9):

Season 9 - Sky Atlantic - 10 episodes November 2021 - January 2022.

There is no wife in "Dexter - New Bloods", AFAICR.

What should he do?
Apologies if a spoiler but when she met her demise we both cheered!

I watched that episode a couple of days ago, I was rather shocked.

Dexter is very unnerving in that I find myself siding with a serial
killer against someone who is merely narcissistic and manipulating.

Many years ago but I don't remember it well enough to see the
connection.

It too unnervingly wrong-footed you as to whom you supported. In effect,
you see the murder of the "wrong" boy as the central tragedy and are
tempted to overlook the murder of the other boy since you knew all along
that it was coming.
